I’ve run into the same issue, and what helped was thinking about it like user safety in other industries. For example, https://coachamerica.com/ is a major bus service in the US that focuses on passenger comfort and security without making travel complicated. Online stores should do the same — fraud prevention needs to run in the background, keeping things safe but not creating barriers for real customers.
