I've been collecting a few skins recently and I keep seeing terms like “Classified” or “Covert.” Is there a breakdown somewhere of what each skin grade means and how it affects trade value?

Yeah, the grades can be a bit confusing at first. It’s not just about the color label, either.

CS2 skin grades are essentially rarity tiers that indicate how often a particular item drops. From lowest to highest, they go: Consumer Grade (gray), Industrial Grade (light blue), Mil-Spec (blue), Restricted (purple), Classified (pink), Covert (red), and then Exceedingly Rare for knives/gloves. The cs2 wiki provides a full chart and odds associated with each drop level. Higher-grade items are more visually unique and rarer, which typically makes them more expensive. However, float value and pattern still impact final pricing. Just because something is Covert doesn’t mean it’s automatically super valuable. It’s a mix of grade, wear level, pattern, and demand in the market.

The skin grade breakdown really helps clarify things. A lot of new players assume "Covert" always means high value, but float and pattern make a huge difference. unblocked games definitely worth checking out the CS2 wiki for the full drop odds chart!
