Yesterday, a colleague mentioned that his previous company used the LASH system to deliver heavy cargo from rivers in the US to seaports, which sparked a discussion about it at work. I had never heard of it before. Could someone please explain how a LASH ship works and what it is useful for in simple terms? Has anyone used this system?

Yes, I've heard of this system. Which company do you work for, if it's not a secret? I dealt with LASH when I was helping some friends with logistics during a project in Louisiana, so I can explain it in layman's terms.The trick is that the barges are loaded on inland waters and then simply lifted onto a large ship and transported by sea without unnecessary transshipment. That's why the LASH ships system is convenient where there are many river routes, such as along the Mississippi or in the Gulf of Mexico area. It really saves time and reduces the risk of damage to cargo. By the way, we found out about this on GetTransport, where all the details are coolly described, you can check it out yourself.
