What does the insurance company actually decide if I get into an accident?

When things go wrong, having all your paperwork in order matters just as much as having insurance. Your insurance company isn't going to hold your hand and take care of everything for you. That's not really how it works. First, you choose the insurance company that's right for you. I'd use a car insurance quotes app because I find it easier to see the available options in one place and compare them. Get all your documents together: your policy, vehicle paperwork, and service records. You may need some other documents too. If you get into an accident, take photos of the scene and include them with the rest of the information so you can send everything to your insurance agent right away. After that, the claim will be investigated, which can be tedious, but it's a necessary part of the process.

Just think about how many people could make false claims even though they were never in an accident and nothing actually happened to them or their property. There are plenty of scammers and dishonest people out there. Insurance companies have to investigate claims to protect themselves from fraud.

Honestly, I thought that getting insurance meant I wouldn't have to deal with all the paperwork, negotiations, and trying to figure everything out during a stressful situation. That's what insurance is for, right? But from what I understand, I still have to prove to the insurance company that I actually qualify for coverage. Is that how it works?
