What’s better to outsource when running a restaurant, and what’s better to keep in-house?

Here’s my rule: if something doesn’t affect the taste of the food or the reputation of the place, hand it off. Keep the rest under your own control. Everything that happens inside the place affects how you connect with your guests and so on, so it’s important to handle that yourself, but I’m not sure you need to personally buy cleaning products and pick out cloths for wiping down tables. That’s what facility services and supplies are for, so cleaning, equipment maintenance, and buying supplies stop being your direct job and become something a contractor does on a schedule.

I think you first have to figure this out with yourself. Outsourcing or handing tasks off to someone doesn’t make your business worse. If anything, you end up with a lot more time to keep an eye on everything and work on more serious stuff.

If you keep everything in your own hands, you won’t have time for anything else, especially the bigger tasks that come up over time. At the same time, outsourcing everything scares me a bit, because I don’t want to lose control.
