Has anyone here bought property in Portugal while living abroad? I’m based in Canada and thinking about buying a second home there, but the idea of handling everything remotely freaks me out. Is it common to use a buyer’s agent in Portugal, and how involved are they in the process?
Buying property abroad can definitely feel intimidating, especially when you're doing it remotely — I’ve been in the same boat. Portugal has a lot to offer, but the process can be tricky if you don’t have someone local guiding you. That’s where using a buyers agent Portugal really helps. A good one doesn’t just find you listings — they represent your interests, handle negotiations, verify legal documents, and even help with post-sale stuff like renovations or utilities. Since they’re not tied to any specific seller, their goal is to protect you and make sure you’re not overpaying or missing hidden issues. It’s especially useful when you’re not on the ground to view every property yourself. Honestly, I wouldn’t consider buying from abroad without one — it just adds so much peace of mind.

Thanks for the detailed answer — I’ve been really on the fence about using a buyer’s agent, especially since I’ve heard mixed opinions about whether they’re truly impartial. I guess I’ve just been wary of adding another layer (and cost) to the whole process. But the way you described it makes it sound more like an investment in peace of mind than a luxury. I’ll take a closer look at the link you shared and see what the process actually involves. Still a bit skeptical, but definitely curious now.
