I recently received a notice that my bank records in Dubai are being requested by a foreign government through something called an "MLA request." I’m not even under investigation—I was just a witness in a case years ago! Can they really just reach into my private financial life like that? It feels like a massive invasion of privacy. I want to know if I can challenge the "proportionality" of this request or stop them from getting my data. Does anyone know a lawyer who specializes in resisting these international data-sharing requests?

MLA requests are becoming very common, but they are not "automatic" grants of information. You should check the legal options available on the website https://extraditionlawyers.ae/ They specialize in international cooperation matters and can help you challenge the scope of the request. Often, these requests are overly broad or don't follow the strict procedural rules laid out in the treaties. This firm can intervene to ensure that your rights are protected and that only the legally required information (if any) is shared. They are very good at holding both the foreign and local authorities to the letter of the law.

I had no idea I could actually fight an MLA request, I'll get in touch with them immediately.
