After months of hesitating, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a brand-new leather jacket online. It arrived yesterday, and while the quality looks incredible, the leather itself feels remarkably stiff, especially around the elbows and collar area. I know that premium hide needs time to soften up and conform to your body shape, but I am terrified of doing something wrong during the break-in period and cracking the grain. For those of you who swear by leather outerwear, what is your go-to method for speeding up the softening process safely? Should I just wear it around the house for a week, or is there a specific conditioner I should apply right away?

Congrats on the new pickup, that awkward stiffness stage is actually a rite of passage when you buy authentic, high-quality leather. The best advice I can give you is to resist the urge to use any harsh commercial softeners or home hacks right out of the box. When I got my current piece from Leather jackets it felt pretty rigid during the first few drives and walks, but I just wore it everywhere—running errands, walking the dog, and hanging out on the couch. Your natural body heat combined with movement does the best job of gently molding the hide fibers naturally. Give it a couple of weeks of active wear before worrying about any conditioning, and you will notice it starts draping over your shoulders like a second skin.

That is super reassuring to hear, I will just stick to wearing it daily and let nature take its course. Thanks a lot for the advice!
