The God Who Leaves You Speechless
THE GOD WHO LEAVES YOU SPEECHLESS
"The God Who Is Set Apart"

a sermon by Craig Englert of Hope Chapel, in Kihei, Maui

Exodus 15:11  Who else is like you, O Lord?  Who is glorious in holiness like you-so awesome in splendor, performing such wonders?

I.  WHAT IS GOD LIKE?

Many people keep God in a box.  He's a righteous God, just and good.  He's relational.  He's our Father

II.  THE HOLINESS OF GOD

There are over 600 verses about His holiness.  All His other attributes flow from HOLY, HOLY, HOLY.

I SAMUEL 2:2  THERE IS NO ONE HOLY LIKE THE LORD.- No Kai Loi- There is no one else like the Lord.

Isaiah 40:25  "With whom will you compare me?  Who is my equal?" asks the Holy One.

Psalms 145:17  The Lord is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

"Sin is a crime against God and His holiness.  We reap what we sow."

Psalm 96:9  Worship the LORD in all HIs holy spendor.  Let all the earth tremble before Him.
"The holiness of God is His intrinsic and transcendant purity..."

III.  ISAIAH'S ENCOUNTER WITH HOLINESS

1.  Isaiah saw the Lord.

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
       "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory."

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6:1-4)

2.  Isaiah saw himself

5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." (Isa. 6:5)

3.  Isaiah saw forgiveness

6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." (Isa. 6:6,7)

4.  Isaiah saw the mission

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isa. 6:8)

IV.  OUR CALL TO HOLINESS

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect." - I Peter 1:14-19

"Our progress in holiness depends on God and ourselves, on God's grace and on our will to be holy." - Mother Theresa
