Big World
Way down in the Vieux Carre
Where all the deer and all those antelope play
I was about to hang it up one day
Gypsy Lady came to me to say
What’s with you man, you’ve got to shake it up
I swear to Goddess I ain’t makin this up
The way of magic is a winding road
Now I don’t want to hear you cry no more
It’s a Big World
A bad world
So get up, move your big bad world
Well hell, I could never have known
My heart’s beating like it’s got up and flown
Now all that stuff about the weather reports
Well tell that weatherman to kiss my shorts
It’s a Big World
A bad world
So get up, move your big bad world
Throw me down my walking cane, it’s a long way to Tokyo
And I can promise you a wild ride so get your big world ready to go
Out beyond the breakers hemming you in
That’s where you’ll find the strength to get up and swim
From Kalahari to Estonian shores*
This world’s an oyster and the pearl is yours
It’s a Big World
A bad world
So get up, move your big bad world
*alternative: from Maui Island to the Jersey Shore

Coconut Boat
I got shipwrecked, washed up on this desert isle
You want a blackjack casino, well you’re going to have to wait a little while
I’m cast away like some Spanish conquistador
This island’s great, yeah this island’s fine, but I don’t want to see this island no more
So I’ll shave a big coconut and sail it away
Hey pretty baby, now believe what I say
Open up your jetty, cause I’m ready with a rope
And I’ll be sailing around the world in my Coconut Boat
I’ll batten down my hatches made of grass
Well this ship ain’t much, but this ship she’s gonna have to last
Ten-thousand miles and maybe ten-thousand more
Until I see your sweet face smiling, until I’m inside of your door
I’m gonna shave a big coconut and sail it away
Hoping pretty mama you believe what I say
Open up your jetty, come be ready with the rope
Cause I’m sailing around the world in my Coconut Boat
And I’d row all the way, boys
If the wind ain’t blowing, I’m rowing all the way
I’ll fight another day, boys
So keep your naked eye out for my mast
My shirt-tail sails set wing-to-wing, blowing me home at last
Cause I shaved a big coconut and sailed it away
I knew pretty baby, you’d believe what I say
Open up your jetty, steady with the rope
Sail around the world in my Coconut Boat

Come Up and See Me Sometime
You got down safe and sound, you put the brakes on, you're so fried
You got your front sewn up so tight you can't tell who's left on your side
You say you stand alone, but I know that you want to fly
But you've got to try
You've got this bit-part, false start, jaded heart and history in the way
You went soft up on the Iron Range, you got stiffed down in the Vieux Carre
Now you don't want to talk about love or the passion play
Well, I'm this warm, state-of-the-art airline
And you can jump on my board any old time
I know you want to... fly too... I do
So why don't you come up and see me sometime?
You've got to push the devil out of the way, if you want to act on what you know
Or you could lay in bed all day, but you're only getting old
And that warm safe bed is never going to rock your soul
So take my hand, kiss the devil goodbye
And drift up, Angel, in this open sky
I know you want to... fly too... I do
So why don't you come up and see me sometime?
(Bridge): No matter what folderol is driving you right up the wall
Call any time at all - you don't have to fall
Take the Man of LaMancha, he never worried, never failed
I think you could be my Little Cat "Z", I'll be your tiger by the tail
So hold tight baby, I'm going to break you out of jail
That beautiful sun will wash over us
I'm throwing down a golden ladder, just because...
I know you want to... fly too... I do
So why don't you come up and see me sometime?

In 2012
They say that time’s up, the year’s 2012
The stars are lined up, go see for yourself
But I’ve made my mind up, I won’t trade, buy or sell
No, I won’t buy the farm in 2012
It started out a normal day, I was down-dog on the floor
In my bones I had my way, but then there came a dark knock on my door
Two young men in black suits and shady glasses chilled me to the bone
When they told me I won’t need my happy home
(CHORUS)
Humanity might get confused in the coming years of worry and woe
If the prophecies turn out to be true, and if they don’t we got a line to toe
All I know is all my ordinary stories just don’t apply
When I realize we could be over in the wink of an eye
I might be a fool
I might be a guru to you
Whatever it is, you can choose
‘Cause this here moment is new
I like it just the way it is here, in this 21st century
All of my friends and a couple-three beers, now where would I rather be?
But am I he, as you are he, and we are all together
Or are we all just in for nasty weather?
(CHORUS)

My Lullaby
Rain on the wings of a whippoorwill
Beautiful river grinding in a mill
Bird will fly, river will flow through
How in the world can I show you
All my love?
Hush you little baby in the treetop
Wind is going to blow, wind is going to stop
Higher than the moon, this world of light
Deeper than the ocean’s my love tonight
From sky and earth, fire and flow
A lone voice sings for you
Leaping in light or lying below
To your heart be true
Wherever you go may you find love
May my lullaby remind you of
All my love

Pretty Little Island
When this old world starts bringing me down and I lie awake
And the four strong winds blow hard
I hear a little rustle in the palm trees and the tide breaks
On a pretty little island, a floating island far away
A trippy little island, I know you’re smilin’
But I’ll spend my days in the sun on a pretty little island
I can’t keep track of all the trouble so never mind me
If I don’t have much to say
The headlines and bad news never find me
On a pretty little island, a floating island far away
A trippy little island, you can go on smilin’
But I’ll spend my days in the sun on a pretty little island
I’m alone at last, I don’t even miss my past
Got a boat tied down by the breaking waves
I’m on the other side and I’m fit to be untied
Coconuts so sweet and the mangoes many,
Free beach doesn’t cost a penny
No clothes, you won’t need any
I was wondering, maybe you’ve got that notion
To come by this peace inside
So get on your boat and sail it over your ocean
To a pretty little island, a floating island far away
A crazy little island, I’ll keep you smilin’
We’ll spend our days in the sun
You’ll know for sure that I’m the only one
I’ll make you feel at home when the day is done
On a pretty little island

Them Bones
Bones underground make me nervous
Bones in my closet could be trouble
All last night I was terrified
Of them laughing bones
And though me old bones may be tired
I’m knowing in me bones I’m always ready
Stone soup nice but a bone suffices
You gotta like them bones
Bones chalky white bleach in the dessert
Bones soggy rot under the ocean
In the boneyard night I take up pen and write
Writing down them bones
‘Cause when I love her we fall off the earth as one
Now I know I’m not the only one who’s a walking funny bone
Bones oily wrapped up in the newsprint
Bones from a dig in Argentina
But she got bones I like so I sing in the mic
I don’t mind them bones
Bones black and white on my piano
She can play so high so I can play low
And we play all over like two boney lovers
Jam and play them bones
