SMOKING IS NOT A SIN

SMOKING IS NOT A SIN

Here, the apostle John has given us the Biblical definition of sin:

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4

Smoking is not sin --but it can lead to
real sin like: Thou Shalt Not Steal.

Strife and divisions come into the church when people “add to” or “diminish from” the perfect law of God. James said:

James 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Let us all of seek holiness in our personal lives and use righteous judgment in our dealings with others.

Harold writes:

As for Donna and I, our view would be that an addiction to smoking is a great evil - it is a slavery. As I understand the Scriptures no one who is in bondage - addicted to anything - smoking illegal drugs, pornography or alcohol etc will inherit eternal life.

And yet the question remains - is smoking one cigarette, taking one drink and so forth sin? The answer is no because smoking one cigarette is not sin because there is no law against it.

"Where there is no law there is no sin." (Paul)

Even the most rabid anti smoker who claims it is sin because it "kills the body" will admit that one cigarette does not kill the body - if they are honest.

On the other hand we can be certain that the Spirit of Christ will NOT come to dwell in anyone who is the slave of anything. Those who are addicted are the slave of their addiction. Their addiction is their master.

"No man can serve two masters." Jesus
