"Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven."
QUESTION: If we are suppose to forgive 70X7 won't God do the same? I know that we can grieve away the Holy Spirit but how long will it be before He gives up on us?
ANSWER: This passage about 70x7 is not about willful sinning against God's commandments it is about brethren doing something wrong to us - such as not acting in love - we are to always forgive if they repent.
If they are sinning against God, they are not our brethren.
Luk 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Surely people who ask that question are not saying "if our brethren sin against us; such as, committing adultery with your wife you should forgive him seventy times seven. We should not confuse errors and trespasses with willful sin which is rebellion against God.
