PHILOSOPHER

Philosopher: "One who applies calm reason to the conduct of life." Winston Senior Dictionary

That sounds good; but satan uses reasons when he tempts people to sin --or question the truth of God's word. He did it in the garden when he tempted Eve and said: "Hath God said?"; "Ye shall not surely die.; "Ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Gen 3:1;4;5)

Satan used philosophy, or the wisdom of this world, to oppose the doctrine of Jesus Christ and the testimony of the apostles and others of His death, burial and resurrection. He is still doing it through carnal reasoning; the mystery of iniquity that exalts mankind to a place of false divinity with the deceptive promise "Ye shall not surely die." Here, Paul teaches us to reject that kind of reasoning:

"Casting down imaginations [Or, reasonings - marginal reading], and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" 2 Co 10:5
