God's Gift - Follow

What do these verses teach on the need to actually follow (obey Jesus)?

Mark 8:34-37  Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. [35] If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. [36] And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? [37] Is anything worth more than your soul?  NLT

Luke 14:26-28,33  If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else-your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. [27] And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. [28] But don't begin until you count the cost. ... [33] So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.  NLT

John 8:31  Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  NLT

John 10:26-28  But you don't believe me because you are not my sheep. [27] My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. [28] I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

Romans 10:9  If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  NLT

Matthew 7:21-23  Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. [22] On judgment day many will say to me, 'Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' [23] But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws.'

1 John 2:3-4  And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. [4] If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.

Other terms for follow including living with Jesus as one's Lord (Lordship), living as a disciple of Jesus, and living a life of obedience to Jesus.
