How to Take the Hard Way to Heaven

(A1) Outline:

Take the Hard Way to Heaven

How?

    1. Follow ONLY Jesus’ Teachings
    2. Jesus MUST Be Master
    3. Jesus Must Be FULLY Obeyed

(A2) For each of the following verses identify what we are to:

  1. Know: Promises, truths about God.
  2. Do: Commands to obey, sins to avoid, examples to follow or not to follow.

(B1) Take the Hard Way to Heaven - Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. (14) For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”  ESV

(B2) Luke 13:23-24 “And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, (24) “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”  ESV   Study more

(B3) How?  In the next 3 paragraphs Jesus gives the 3 requirements of the Hard Way to Heaven.

(C1) Follow Only Jesus’ Teachings - Matthew 7:15-20 Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. (16) By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? (17) Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. (18) A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. (19) Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (20) Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.  NIV

(C2)1 Timothy 4:16 “Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.” NLT  Study more

(D1) Jesus Must Be Master - Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. (22) On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ (23) But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’”  NLT

(D2) Mark 8:34-37 "Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. (35) For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. (36) What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? (37) Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?"  NIV  Study more

(E1) Jesus Must be Fully Obeyed - Matthew 7:24-27 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (26) And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. (27) And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”  ESV

(E2)Joshua 1:8  “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful." NIV  Study more

(F1) Since E1 “Jesus Must be Fully Obeyed” (Matthew 7:24-27) is the only way you can effectively do C1 and D1 how will you do E1 specifically this week?
