Your Most Important Habit
(1) How close do you want God to be? James 4:8 "Come close to God, and God will come close to you."
(2) How? By looking intently, continually, not forgetting, but DOING God's word. James 1:25 "But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do."
Start with 10 + 10 minutes with God. The following times are just a suggestion.
LET GOD TALK TO YOU by (10 minutes)
(1) Highlighting Bible
Start by telling God “Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions” (Psalm 119:34). Then read the Bible and highlight the key instructions to obey or know. Start with the Gospel of Matthew. Using (SPECK) study by asking is there any:
- Sin to avoid
- Promise to live by
- Example to follow or not to follow
- Command or instruction to do
- Key truth to know
(2) Responding to God
Talk to God about your highlights. Then pick one scripture to apply and do it today.
THEN TALK TO GOD by praying with the PRAY acronym for 10 minutes
P – Praise. Tell God how much you love him. Praise him for his great-ness, power, majesty, and sovereignty. Thank him for several specific things.
R – Repent. Review yesterday, confessing and turning from ALL you did wrong and the good you DIDN’T do. “If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” (Psalm 66:18).
A – Ask. Ask for and depend on God’s help and protection with you and other’s needs. Most importantly don’t give up but KEEP asking (Luke 11:8).
Y – Yield. Throughout the day ask God what to do and what not to do. Yield to His direction and desires.
