Overview

Strathclyde University is a world-class technology university located in the centre of Glasgow, one of the UK's most populous cities. With over 23,000 students from over 100 countries, the University of Strathclyde provides a vibrant and welcoming environment for students from all walks of life.

Strathclyde is a 5-star QS-rated university that was named the University of the Year by Times Higher Education in 2012 and 2019, as well as the Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2013. They have been named the new Scottish University of the Year for 2020, as well as the Queen's Higher and Further Education Anniversary Award, which is the industry's highest national honour.

The University of Strathclyde Technology & Innovation Centre is transforming Strathclyde's research output, and the university has advanced into the top 20 research-intensive universities in the UK since the last Research Excellence Framework in 2014. The Department of Physics is the most popular in the United Kingdom, whereas Electronic and Electrical Engineering is the most popular in Scotland.

History

Strathclyde University is situated in the centre of Glasgow, one of the UK's most populous cities. It features a vibrant, international student body of over 23,000 students from over 100 countries, with international students accounting for over 21% of the total. Strathclyde University has been providing academic excellence for more than 200 years through world-class research and teaching.

In the QS Stars University Ratings (2017–2020), this award-winning university received a top-five star rating in all eight categories. Teaching, employability, testing, globalization, equipment, originality, inclusion, and specialist expertise are all part of this. Students may expect excellent teaching, as well as world-class study opportunities and access to industry networks and commercial contacts. Scholarships

A number of different scholarships are available to international undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Scholarships will pay all tuition costs and living expenses, both for the pathway programs and degree courses. Some other partial funding options that can contribute to university expenses are also available.

Science

  • Undergraduate Elite Scholarships £2000 per year
  • Postgraduate Elite Scholarship £2,500 or £3,000

HaSS

  • UG: Dean’s International Scholarship – £3,500 per year
  • PG: Dean’s International Excellence Awards-£4,000 (31/May DDL), after 31/May -£3000

Engineering

  • Faculty of Engineering Excellence Scholarship (FEES): UG -4,000 For 1st year and £1,500 for each subsequent year.

Facilities & Services

During the academic year, the International Student Club meets on a regular basis and provides an informal setting for students to meet and get to know one another. Day and weekend tours, international food night events, theatre visits, and music performances are among the social activities planned. Students have a terrific opportunity to meet and create crucial contacts and friends at weekly international meetups.

There are pre-sessional and in-sessional English courses available, as well as free English language tuition and assistance for up to four hours per week for students. Other needs, such as visas, work, and lodging, can also be addressed by the staff.

Students with mental health and wellness issues are provided with a variety of services. This includes one-on-one mental health and well-being assessments, treatment, and mentoring. Provides wellness therapies, as well as an online program for mental health support and stress awareness.

Student life

Glasgow is one of the most vibrant and welcoming cities in the United Kingdom. Glasgow, being a cultural capital with a cuisine culture catering to all budgets, offers a diverse selection of entertainment, including museums, galleries, and theatres, as well as numerous live music venues.

Glasgow is known for being a cultural hotspot. The Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and a number of theatres and museums are all located there.

Sports sites include Hampden Park, the national football stadium, and world-class stadiums erected for the Commonwealth Games, such as the Chris Hoy Velodrome and the Emirates Arena.

Other attractions include the Glasgow Science Centre, which contains an IMAX theatre, the SSE Hydro, the ancient cathedral, and the Lordship of Provand. The Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and a number of theatres and museums are all located there.

The Strathclyde Union enriches the student experience by supporting, representing, and promoting student rights and welfare. Students can interact over food and drink or join one of Strath Union's 170+ clubs and societies, as well as 53 sports groups.

Strath Union is governed by a full-time student executive who is elected by the students. The Advice Center and Nightline provide free, confidential advice.

Living Accommodation

Nearly 1,500 students remain in the campus village, with another 400 living in university housing within walking distance of the institution.

All first-year undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in university housing at Strathclyde, which is divided into flats with a shared kitchen. A web service is provided to connect landlords with students who want to move off-campus after their first year.

Each hall is only a short walk from the main university facilities, including the Student Union, the Sports Centre, the International Study Centre, the Library, and the campus stores and cafes. The university is conveniently positioned in Glasgow's bustling city centre. A number of pubs, clubs, stores, and restaurants are all within walking distance of the lodging blocks.

There is self-catering accommodation as well as a mix of en-suite and communal bathroom amenities. The rooms are well-appointed, with plush furnishings and fast internet access. For students to mingle and cook together, there is a shared living room with new cooking appliances and a TV.

SELF-CATERED The cost of lodging is between £104 and £141 a week.

Transport

Glasgow's One Campus is located in the centre of the city. The main train and bus stations are only a 10-minute walk away. These transportation options are both inexpensive and secure. Daily rail services operate throughout the United Kingdom from Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations. Buchanan Bus Station offers coach service to most of the UK's main cities. The city is approximately about 4.5 hours distant from London. Students can also travel to the international airport, which is about 20 minutes away from school. Students may readily access the library, housing, and sports facility, all of which are located on campus, within a few minutes walking distance. In addition, the university is within walking distance of retail malls, restaurants, theatres, pubs, and parks.

Graduate Careers

The university has a popularity for its employability rate. It helps the students to become ready for real-world jobs. Within the campus, the university arranges employers’ workshops, on and off-campus events like Scottish Graduate Fair. Strathclyde has many Entrepreneurial Networks. It has been maintaining 260 spin-off companies since 2005.
